Tinsel Run 2006
The weather was kind as a record number of Striders turned out for the 2006 Tinsel Run.

Although we all missed Nigel’s outrageous tights which had gone to the Alps with him, there were plenty of Christmas hats, flashing lights and other festive clothing to make sure that the population of Saffron Walden noticed us as we passed.

Cowboy Graham’s Santa hat, Steve’s Heidi-style pigtails and Matt’s saucy elf’s hat made it appear that there was an inter-club competition to see who could look the most ridiculous.

Without Simon to lead us this year, Nick took the reins and guided the group past some of the more eccentrically decorated houses in Walden. Margit was dragged along by her dog and Gavin by his daughter.

There are only so many illuminated Santas that anyone can cope with, so after 30 minutes we headed to the Market Square.

Claire, Clare and John had supervised the production of some damn tasty mulled wine and we had far too may mince pies to do us good.

Armed with her camera, Andrea appeared everywhere, whilst Nick was suggesting cash for the photos not to appear on the website.

Everyone was pleased to see Simon turn up to the Market Square having made a sprightly recovery.

The club had qualified for two guaranteed entries into the London Marathon. The club offers these places in a draw for club members. To qualify for the draw, you had to have already been rejected from the 2007 London marathon. As a previous recipient of a ballot place, Steve White withdrew from the ballot which left just 4 people in the draw. The lucky winners were Robert Woodward and Frances Reynolds.

The group then trotted back to the sports centre for a shower and change, before heading on to the Dodge residence where we were treated to a sumptuous pizza feast, great conversation and plenty of Christmas cheer. Thanks to Gavin for the story
