The Ypres (Iepers) Hash The hash is organised by a Brussels club (mostly British ex-pats) on the nearest Saturday to November 11th, and has been for the last 5 years.  The route is organised to take the runners past some of the many memorials and military cemeteries of the battles at Ypres. At the request of the Saffron Walden branch of the British Legion we laid a small wreath of poppies at the Menen Gate Memorial. We had a bright sunny day, if a bit cold, and some very pleasant running.  Nick claimed the honour of finding the most (about 90%) of the false trails and the girls were quite taken by the Brussles hasher who has a shower, al freso, whatever the temperature or location.  After the run we dined in a local restuarant then attended the ceremony of the 'Last Post' which is conducted by the Ypres Fire Brigade an the Menen Gate Memorial every evening as a tribute to men and women who died defending the town. Thank U's to:   The Brussles Hash for inviting us.   Carole and John for driving.   John for organising it.   The rest for their company. |
