Tour of Pendle

Steve White reports:

Did this one on Saturday - a hugely enjoyable day out - the final long race of the year - and described as an inspired and testing route over Claytons' favourite hill, or the the most contrived race in the FRA handbook depending on your view.

The race involves six climbs, the last 3 of which are very steep, running over boggy terrain and one famous descent known locally as 'Geronimo'.

The weather was kind with little clag on the tops, and the first half of the race was relatively straightforward. In the second half the steep climbs came continuously, and by the time the last one came round - known as 'Big End' - there was little energy left in the tank.

All that remained was a 2.5 mile run to the finish to run the cramp out of the legs, followed by a wash in the river and lovely hot soup.
