Cambridge Boundary Run 13.1m

01 March 2009

Nigel Coates reports:

The Cambridge Boundary run is organised by Cambridge University Hare and Hounds.

The full boundary run is a 26.2 mile marathon doing a clockwise circuit of Cambridge City, mainly on paths and tracks. A half marathon option is also offered which is far more popular. With this you do the first half of the full marathon route, taking in Fulbourn, Babraham Park and Ride, Addenbrookes, Trumpington and Grantchester. You finish at Coton, and coaches bring you back to the start at the John Lloyd Leisure Centre in Coldhams Lane.

It is well organised, the route is well marked, and in addition get get a booklet of the route and a colour map.

and Kate Holden reports:

I ran my first half marathon over 15 years ago. My legs hurt sooooo much on that occasion (only having run up to 7 miles in training might have had something to do with it) I vowed never to run again. Thankfully my second attempt at the distance on Sunday was, on the whole, a much more pleasurable experience!!!

The Cambridge Boundary run follows a rather convoluted course around… surprise surprise the city boundary, taking in roads, footpaths and tracks. The mixed terrain and varied route made a refreshing change after weeks of plodding the same tracks round Linton and having other runners for company were a welcome boost.

If you're looking for a half marathon with lots of cheering crowds then don’t do this one, however, if you want the chance to try a half marathon without having to travel miles (and follow in the footsteps of such running legends as Chris Brasher), then its definitely worth it (and only £7 to enter).
