Rivington Pike Fell Race 3.25m 700ft ascent

11 April 2009

Steve White reports:

A classic fell race with a long history and great atmosphere.

It starts from the centre of Horwich and it basically straight up Rivington Pike and back down. There is no opportunity for a rest, and on a sunny day the crowds created a mini Alpe d'Huez atmosphere as you ascended the Pike. A great race to choose as your first fell race - as the terrain is kind and you can't get lost!

Ron Hill who some of our older runners may remember ran - and he reckons he has spent over half his Easter Saturdays running this race - in earlier years he was a regular winner.
