Bartlow Three Counties 8.5m

03 May 2009

Claire Waters reports:

This race is part of the Bartlow Three Counties Walk - there are also 13 mile and 8.5 mile walks and a 2 mile family Nature Trail.

It is very well organised and there are lots of additional entertainments, such as a live band (slightly strange modern jazz, but obviously talented!), beer tent and food etc. Proceeds go to the Addenbrookes Neurology Department.

They are not quite geared up to organising a competitive race, as the cross-country route is complicated and there are not enough marshalls to direct, however, it is a great course, and very enjoyable for a Sunday morning run. Inevitably I made a slight detour, and at one point myself and a few others found ourselves running across part of a field followed closely by an excited herd of cows. The sign warning us of the presence of a bull made for a burst of speed!

I imagine this race will grow, and would recommend it highly. We all enjoyed the nature trail also, which included a balloon release off the top of the historic Bartlow Hills (large Roman barrows).
