Howe Street 5m

12 June 2009

Paul Waters reports:

This is a popular and friendly 5m race run by Springfield Striders, which attracts runners from a wide area.

The course is gently undulating, with no serious hills, and winds round quiet country lanes, ending at the Green Man pub (apparently the oldest pub in Essex). A burger is included in the £5 entry fee, though the queue to receive it was very long, as was the wait at the bar for a well earned pint.

The organiser is a real character, and had a huge number of varying prizes to dish out afterwards, one of which (box of liquorice allsorts!) went to our very own John Howe, the first (and only) M70. Claire (new PB) received a bottle of wine for her position as 10th female. And well done to Gary on his new PB.

On a personal note, I was really pleased to beat my previous PB by 3:25 - which probably tells you that it must be quite a quick course!
