High Ongar Charity 10k

05 July 2009

Paul Waters reports:

This is a very popular and well organised race, near the M11 J7. The route is picturesque, passing through open countryside and crossing the historic Chipping Ongar airfield, home to the 387th Bomber Group of the US Air Force during the Second World War. In 2008, it was chosen as the Essex AAA 10K Championship Race.

The parking is a 5 minute walk from the race HQ, and it is a further 15 minute walk to the start, but don't let this put you off. The route is on roads and gravel tracks, and is gently undulating, with no steep hills, though there is a significant incline to the finish (well it seemed significant at the time). Its not a PB course but is very enjoyable, and as I say the organisation was excellent. On a personal note, I was pleased with my time and placing, given the course and the weather which was hot and quite humid.
