London 10k

11 July 2010

Rebecca White reports:

If you want a taster of the atmosphere of the London Marathon, then this is the race for you. 25,000 run through central London.

Personally, I found the crowds a bit much and would think twice before entering the marathon, but I am used to running quiet races in the middle of nowhere.

This is not one to do a fast time. It is a mass start with all speeds running together. The first 5k involves constant weaving and ducking and diving (finally my short height gives me an advantage!). You also have to time yourself unless you pay an extra £10 to get a timing chip on a first come first served basis.

I raced this with people from work to raise money for Macmillan in memory of a colleague. It was a fantastic day out and such a great event for charities. Watching runners after I had finished I felt very emotional seeing so many people push themselves to their limits to raise money.
