Hertford 10k

10 Apr 2011

Andrew Mynott reports:

The Hertford 10K is an undulating course, along disused railway lines and country lanes around the county town. There's an alarming point after about 2K where one's running down the slipway onto the A414, but thankfully one turns off before reaching the dual carriageway. Apart from that the only nasty bit is saved right to the end when there's a Windmill-Hill-esque incline up to the finish line. I had led from the start of the race to the bottom of this hill but then a young whipper snapper hopped up the hill like a mountain goat and beat me to the line. Always the bridesmaid and never the bride in Hertford. It's three years in a row I've finished second here.

It's a well organised event with plenty of signage and marshalls, free massages at the end, and plenty of drinks and snacks. One also has the pleasure of meeting Olympic bronze medalist Jean Pickering (wife of the late Ron Pickering of We are the Champions fame) and BBC athletics commentator Stuart Storrie. The sun always seems to be shining for this race too.
