Sweatshop/David Lloyd Cambridge 10k Run

10 July 2011

Stephane Toussenel reports:

I joined this event for the first time as that was the last one organised by our friend Ash from Sweatshop. The event is really friendly and you get a usual and useful Sweatshop voucher.

The great thing was to meet some usual suspects from the 5k league, local races or lunch time training. And so that was good to try to set a pace for this event.

The weather was great, sunny which turn to be tiring k after k. Although I didn’t know the course route, quite twisty and not traffic-free, I tried to set a 40min/pace, what I only managed on 5k races at the moment. I started quite well but after just one k, hit a bollard hidden by my friend Simon from C&C. No harm at the time, so I carried on a bit on my own, adrift of a group of sub 4min/k runners.

Half way through, I was still on target with just under 20minutes but then felt a lack of strength to sustain the pace. Thanks to two runners catching up with me I managed to get some motivation and energy back to pull me to the finish, with a modest 41’03 mark.

Overall satisfied to shave seconds race after race and to get back to sustainable fitness.
